The perfect career advancement with public speaking classes

Fear of speaking in public can be a huge obstacle if you want to develop your career. Here are a few public speaking advices and a suggestion if you are looking for a public speaking course. Use Your Voice and Hands Effectively. Omit Nervous Gestures. Nonverbal communication carries most of the message. Good delivery does not call attention to itself, but instead conveys the speaker’s ideas clearly and without distraction. Grab Attention at the Beginning, and Close with a Dynamic End. Do you enjoy hearing a speech start with “Today I’m going to talk to you about X”? Most people don’t. Instead, use a startling statistic, an interesting anecdote, or concise quotation. Conclude your speech with a summary and a strong statement that your audience is sure to remember.

The most important part of a successful presentation happens before you even start talking. Once you do begin speaking, you will be thankful for your fastidious preparation and practice. Create your presentation with lots of time to spare and make notes on all of the points you want to make for each slide. This time will help you ensure that all the materials you need exist and allow for plenty of practice. If you are going to use a handout, then make sure you have these ready in advance (this is also a useful backup in case of technical difficulties). Give your presentation to the mirror, your partner/mum/housemate, video camera. Get feedback and watch the recording. Establish where your difficulties lie and any bad habits you might have. Fix them with more practice or by altering the talk. If there are any difficult to pronounce words or technical jargon, then make sure you can say them. The correct pronunciation and knowledge of industry language will give you credibility. See more details Career advancement.

Mentally prepare. Find time during the hour before your speech for some solitude. Get your mind right. Clear your head. If it’s five minutes before, just relax. The time for making sure you know the material perfectly has passed. Exercise before you go on. It’s almost impossible to feel stress and anxiety after a good workout. If you have the time, exercise. The closer to your speech, the better. It’s also a good time to practice. I like to rehearse while running or swimming.

What people say ? I bought this book to help prepare for some upcoming speaking engagements. Public speaking has never been my thing , no matter how many times I have done it. I agreed with points the author makes: Prepare, prepare, prepare (and how to), show up early, smile. However he brings up other pointers that I was not aware of and will definitely incorporate in my routine (don’t want to give away too much). It’s an easy read and he shares his emotions and embarassing situations. What was really interesting to learn is, even with all his experience, he still uses these strategies for every speech! Thanks for writing such a practical book. The Amazon book can be obtained here: Speak with no fear ebook.

Speak to one person at a time: One of the most terrifying things about public speaking is the crowd. Just by looking at the crowd, all in silence just to hear you speak, will send shivers down your spine. To overcome this, you just need to speak to one person at a time. Choose one member of your audience and dedicate your whole presentation to him or her. Just assume that everyone else is not paying attention. When someone asks you a question, change your focus to that person and answer the question as if the two of you are in a coffee shop chatting away. Isn’t that the most relaxing way to handle a crowd?
